I was at school with guys who's parents emigrated to UK from the
so-called sub-contiment (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir, Pakistan) and believe me their Urdu words for European people border on the obscene and inflamitory. I still have half a dozen friends of Pakistani origin and they refer to themselves as Pakis.
The word itself is not racist, though their are racists who use it and wish it were.
