First, there is no right way. You two need to find your way.

You will find a lovely "menu" of ideas here. Do read, think (yes that is a part of it) and communicate. Then start but make sure to continue discussions. Sometimes what you thought looked hot is a turn-off. I know at the beginning this is hard to do, but go slow and cautiously at first.

IMO, looking around here and on other sites at this stage will be more helpful than someone advising you two.
