Kyoto is a relatively conservative town though as a college town plenty of bars around campus. It has been a while since I have been on the hunt but any youth hostel will be able to tell you where best gaijin hangouts are. Japanese women (some college women but surprisingly large number of 20-30 somethings) like to go there as an adventure. Don't be a loud crass foreigner. Be respectful. Many like to practice their English so help them with that and you will do fine. If you have time, take a train ride over to Osaka. Women there are wilder and kinkier. Do tell what happens!

My wife is from Kyoto, so I have a soft spot for women there...but otherwise I agree that Osaka probably has more nightlife catering to gaijin wanting to get laid (and japanese women wanting to get laid by gaijin). I haven't lived in Japan for many years, but remember well a few clubs where so many of the women there were hoping to find a hot foreign boy friend. I wish I could remember the name of the one club where just about every time I went I got laid. It's probably no longer existing anyway, though. They let foreigners in for free and Japanese paid a cover charge.
