 | As a fellow caption fan, I'd like to know what your preferences are. Do you like short texted captions, which just transmit an idea, a concept with few words, or you like better the long texted ones, that almost tell a mini story?

   | Mostly short but some long ones are outrageously good. But, to be good I think the longer ones have to reach a much higher caliber than the shorter ones..otherwise I get bored. |

 | I have not found the length of a text to detract or add to its quality in any significant way. There are some extremely long but excellent text captions in the castration thread that are great, and some very short ones in brownietered threads that have different types of triggers. Some are better instant, and some are much better when built up. |

 | Shorter is better most of the time .....The picture sets the scene, and the caption puts the twist on it.
A long drawn out story does not allow enough space for the reader to put their own little twist into it as they read it.
My thoughts for what they are worth.

 | Either, if the text is good. What I don't like is text all over the picture! |

 | Short text always. A short text captures the feeling of an INSTANT and, for me at least, that's where the punch is. The big thrill is in the single moment of first knowing something or being asked to do something or having an unexpected opportunity. The impact is always diluted in long texts. |

 | Had to vote "don't care" since you didn't have an option for "a variety." I think that more often short ones are good because they often leave more to the imagination. However there are also a lot of good longer ones. At the end of the day I just like a variety of them. |

 | To me it is nothing about the length of the caps it is about the effectiveness of sharing the story...or emotion that is important... in a few or many words |

 | As someone who does a lot of "story" caps I can see how this debate is interesting. I long ago gave up on the idea that I could do short text caps like Don Jetman or Scarf. They have an almost uncanny ability to sum up a crazy sexy picture with just a few words or a couple of lines that provides a total cuckold turn on. Me I'm just trying to paint a scene that goes along with the picture. At least that's the theory... |

 | Having made both caps with long and with short text - I must say that the short text Caps almost always are the most classic...
I think the reamister is that all of us have different back ground and different angles to a picture...and what happened...or what the situation really is/was/will be...

The short texts gives a more open thing where the reader has to add his fantasy/experience...

So for me - short text caps are better...

   | I guess that I'm biased since I do all short caps, but I think they allow you to fill in the backstory how you like and for me thats more effective. |

   | With a few exceptions, shorter is always better than longer, IMHO. That's something you don't hear often around here, "Shorter is Better." LOL!All caps posted by me are yours for the taking.

 | . Well haven't we all gotten philosophical. I'm always happy when I can keep the amount of text to a minimum but having said that I'm still not sure what it means. I mean certain images just don't need a caption at all but even the perfect image may not be interpreted in the same way buy everyone. And some readers/viewers may not get it at all. They text can fix that problem. But even more important some stories just take more words to tell. So permisterally I'm not sure that the amount to text makes much difference. Remember I like short text and for sure a large dense text block is going to have to have a really great image to get me to read it but still some stories just take more time. Meaning more words or maybe even serial images. . | So here we...

 | ...have this series...

 | ...and I carry the story...

 | ...across the images and you can imagine things I left out.

 | Umm... It's not the length of the text so much as how you use it, right? |

 | Very long captions pose two problems: first, they become hard to read, one is powerd to use a smaller font etc so that they will fit. The second problem is more serious: one iswriting a caption for a pic, not a story, and hence the pic should be the main thing.

 | For me, it's all about the picture and the resemblance to my wife. If that attracts my eye, then I'll read the captions. So....long or short...if the pic doesn't do it for me, then no caption will. |

 | I try to keep mine short, but for me the pic and the relationship of the text to it are key. |

 | Looks like I've been missing the mark. I'm a story teller at heart so many of my caps are long. In many cases I look at it at an illustrated story. Se La Vie. |

I especially like it when the permister resembles someone I know. _Especially_ if it's someone I've ever had a crush on. OMG.... xoxoxo Christine |

Ok it's clear that short wins but
the question remains as to what
 exactly is short.

 | agree with you jane... how many words are 'short' and 'long' but, I think that a short test is more open...makes the cap more 'open'...there is something about reading a cap...and you recognize something that were not in the mind of the maker at all...because its somehow so general that the maker did not realize that he sparked something in the reader that makes him lay down on his bed...and masturbate vigorously... But...your jane...your concept is different somehow...you have this 'story' in front of your caps...that explain some...but still makes the caps 'stand alone'....it's kind of genius... | | norwegian: how many words are 'short' and 'long'I went back and looked at the last fifty that I posted. I excluded "repair jobs," since they're not my original work. Out of those 50: They all have one, two, or three sentences. None of them is longer than 3 sentences. The average total word length is a little less than 18. The longest one is 39 (and second-longest is 30). The shortest one is 4 words in length (the second-shortest is 8 words). What can you do in only four words? Here it is: -------I said, "Bend Over!" Mine are pretty short. xoxoxo Christine |
