I forget how different NYC is then most of america sometimes... even living out west now... we mixed fast and hard... where I am now the typical permisters take... is very 1978 for me...
I know exactly how you feel, being a native New Yorker, Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn for the most part,,,and although I was aware of racism, it wasn't that much of a thing for us either, we had our niggers, spics, wops and kykes, and lets not forget the micks,,,but none of it was really deep seated hatred like in the rest of the country. Before I moved to Portland and I lived in Orlando, I was blown away by how things changed when I saw the racial strife in Queens.
