HJ Split only allows you to split a video file into UNPLAYABLE equal-sized files. (with .001, 002 extensions).

What I want to achieve is cropping out good segments of a video and drop the unwanted ones. Yet able to play the good segments (with .avi or .mpg extensions).

Anyone has any idea which video editing software can do that and where can I get a free copy?

adultman1970, i don't know where to get full copyies of editing softwear, but i know that the Boilsoft products are very good for editing video's. I think they give you a 10 day trial. I'm going to buy some of there programes as i found them to be very easy to use and they work well. Here is the link to there site where you can find the trial stuff

windows xp comes with windows movie maker. Go to start, accessories and you should see it there.

That works for me. You can clip the file from the front and the back and then save the new clip to your computer. You can even combine clips to make a whole new movie. the only problem is that it's not compatible with some clips.

Best I can suggest.
